Very Mary Makeover

Each year for their birthdays, Very Mary and her Very Mother celebrate by giving one another all the free stuff they've accumulated during the year. Really, you'd be surprised by the amount of free junk that these two can find. And this isn't like hotel-sample-shampoo-free, this is like scrounged-through-freebie-boxes-at-yard-sales and snagged-promos-off-the-table kind of free. Sometimes there's some pretty amazing stuff. And sometimes? Sometimes there's this:

The Very Mother found this weird/warped/rather country-ish cherry picture from a freebie table at her local thrift shop. It did come in a rather swanky glass frame with adorable metal clip closure. But, well, um. Look at it. Never one to look at ugly with the same eyes as others, Very Mary was able to transform that into this:

She simply flipped the cherry-covered outer mat around to its white side, and then she covered that green mat with some black cardstock. For the center image? Very Mary cut out a picture from a card sent to her by a friend. Once its adorable little clippy frame was replaced, this piece of artwork looked like something from a gallery. Total cost? Free.

I swear we are twins! Since I've been doing my reorganizing dance around here, I've been doing the same thing. Frames, glass and mats can be expensive to have someone else do.

And on top of that, I like my friend's artwork much better than some of these other pieces that have been hanging on my walls :)

You are just too clever. I have a penchant for cherry prints but in this case I much prefer your new arrangement.

Amazing transformation!! You know how much I LOVE doing stuff like this. Trash to treasure at it's best. Nice work!

Fantastic transformation on the freebie. Wonderful looking pie. Your quilt for your grandmother turned out fabulous. Good luck with your second attempt at a glasses free life. Let's say that the second time will be the charm.

To prove the validity of the "find good stuff" statement: today, Very David received a package from his Very Favorite Bicycling Shop. Inside was a promo men's razor and it wasn't even used. ha. So yes, that Very Free razor has been added to the Very Mother's freebie box.
