Are You Ready...

...for Mother's Day? My mom is one of those women who needs nothing. She doesn't collect anything, she lives very simply, and she cannot at all tolerate clutter (I know, where did I come from?!). So, every holiday is difficult for me. She wants NOTHING. NOTHING. NOTHING. This year, I had a genius brainstorm because my mom's main hobby is reading. She always has a novel with her.

Years ago (20? 25?), my mom got this from an Avon magazine:

It's a paperback novel holder. She has used this sad little mousy creation as long as I can remember. Last year she surrendered it to me, and she asked me to give it to my grandmother. My grandmother was supposed to make her a new one. I admit it, I did not surrender. Instead, as I am wont to do, I hoarded the thing away in a little basket of "to-do".

So, last night I whipped up a new one, using fresh fabric and avoiding the mouse. However, I did sew in a satin ribbon for a bookmark. I also stopped at Borders for two new novels, and VOILA! Happy Mother's Day:

Phenominal - I always get my Mom craft stuff. She is my inspiration. The funny part - she always says when she dies I will get to clean out her house and we laugh because there is no way we will EVER use up all her stuff and/or mine.

Nice work!! That is a great idea! A great way to hide trashy novels to avoid embarrassment. Not that I read trashy novels of course! :)

I inherited my packrat gene from both my parents. Now that my mom lives with me, it's a condition I keep having to beat down with a baseball bat - usually with no luck!

Good idea for your mom though. Now you can gift her with bookstore gift cards :)
